Red Dials Great Game: NEREIDE vs. MEDUSA
I bought recently two watches with a red dial. In the order of arrival it was the MECCANICHE VENEZIANE (MV) Nereide (Cf ma revue in french sorry) et de la VERTIGO Medusa (Cf my review).
The assumed target was to compare the two models and at the end to keep only one of them... It's time for the great comparison game!
To compare tje two watches, i tried to build a list of objective criterions, and to quote them ... subjectively! Here is a synthesis table:
Clearly the game is tight, the small score difference refelcts well the similarity of the two watches.
If I try to focus on the advantages and drawbacks of each model:
NEREIDE
(+) :
* Crown protected by the case.
*Jubile bracelet with many links.
* Dial design, golden rings around index
(-):
* Back engraving.
* Back hold by 4 screws.
* Price (x2 / Medusa)
MEDUSA
(+) :
* Screwed back.
* Marvellous back engraving.
(-):
* Dial and hands a little too much "flieger like" for a diving watch.
* Crown screwed but not protected.
More details:
- Le back of the MEDUSA (Screwed, wonderful engraving) is one of its biggest point relatively to the NEREIDE (Back hold by 4 screws, very light engraving). And this may also help to ensure 30atm water Tightness vs 20atm.
- The big drawback of the MEDUSA is its hands: a little too much "Flieger-like" for a diving watch, and with no lume on the second hand.
- The dial of the NEREIDE has an overall better design, looks more "rich", with a much better aspect at night... But strangely, after a few days of use, I got more attached to the MEDUSA dial...
Conclusion:
- After having worn the two watches for a while, I got more attached to eh MEDUSA, even if the dial of the NEREIDE looks better (but it doesn't woth a nearly 2x cost in my opinion!).
- So the VERTIGO MEDUSA wins the game, but it has been VERY tight. I showed both watches to some friends, and on their side NEREIDE was winning by 6% of votes... A proof that it is very subjective.
