Vintage prices explodes... Patek at Sotheby's.

Version francaise

Yesterday Sotheby's sold to auction the "Graves" watch from Patek-Philippe, named after a famous newyork bank owner, that had been realised in 1933.

Already at that time, the watch was famous, known as the most complicated watch in the world.

Then, she was estimated around 15 millions euros (18.7 million $), and it had been sold at 23.7 million $).

More than the golden case, the interest of ths watch is really in the mechanical and horological aspects, and also the a small historical aspect.

We are far from the amount that most of the people can afford to buy a watch, but this event shows that the craze for horology is still alive. This kind of auction is a leader to raise other auctions to the top, but let's hope that the rest of the vintage market wont follow. With prices always higher proposed by major brands, without any real interest for the customer, the vintage market is the only one remaining for the real aficionados!
